This new briefing covers East Brent and the wider civil parish of Rooksbridge and Edingworth, with selected nearby Somerset developments that may matter to residents. Events and official documents are linked so readers can confirm changes at source.

Parish council, planning and public notices

The council publishes its 2026 meeting minutes and reports, including records from September. The council covers East Brent, Rooksbridge and Edingworth; meeting dates and minutes can be viewed at its official page. Planning application statuses and consultation deadlines should always be checked against the Somerset planning register; third-party planning listings can lag behind actual decisions.

Brocks Pill: £100,000 drainage funding

Somerset Rivers Authority lists £100,000 for East Brent asset improvements in the 2026–27 programme. The Axe Brue Internal Drainage Board is expected to undertake works on unstable stone-filled cage defences alongside Brocks Pill rhyne; wider culvert assessment is also envisaged. The published programme identifies benefits for nearby homes, businesses, the medical centre, the B3140 and farmland. Funding does not mean construction is finished. Read the official project description.

Roads, buses and county decisions

On 7 October, Somerset Council’s Executive approved its 2026–27 to 2029–30 Local Transport Delivery Plan for submission to the Department for Transport, with plans for highways, public transport, walking and cycling. This does not itself announce an East Brent bus timetable change. Official decision record.

Somerset Council also approved a 10% rise in existing council car park charges from January 2027, with a later restructuring under consideration. Councillor Bob Filmer, representing Brent Knoll, publicly criticised the possible effects on local businesses. These are separate factual decisions and an attributed political response. Community groups and local participation

At the Village Hall, All-Sorts Choir and chair-based yoga are listed with recurring sessions. The Parish Council’s hall page supplies hire information and activity contacts. The Brent Knoll Inn has publicised its bingo, crochet, baby-and-toddler, skittles and live-music groups without a confirmed forthcoming timetable; see its post. East Brent Film Night also promotes screenings, but the next title and date have not been verified from its Facebook page.

Wider news and consultations

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service is consulting on its draft Community Risk Management Plan for 2027–2032, with responses invited until 9am on 4 January 2027. Have your say and read the consultation documents.

Following a fatal motorcycle collision on the A370 near Bleadon on 4 October, police appealed for witnesses and dashcam footage, reference 5226284189. This was between Weston-super-Mare and Burnham-on-Sea, not in East Brent village. Read the dated appeal.
