East Brent news and events: 10–24 October 2026

Illustration of an English Somerset village church, countryside, community noticeboard and autumn leaves.

Published 10 October; editorial order updated 11 October 2026. A source-linked round-up for East Brent, Rooksbridge, Edingworth, Brent Knoll and nearby communities. The principal diary covers 10–24 October, with a short look ahead to half-term and November.

Editorial update · 11 October 2026: Our source-linked news now follows a strict village-first reading order: Church Road and East Brent School, then East Brent Parish Council, parish and village activities, then Brent Knoll, with wider Somerset below. The event diary remains chronological.

Church Road & East Brent School

St Mary’s, Church Road: parish service timetable

The Parish of Three Saints has provided its official October–November service sheet. Sunday 1 November at St Mary’s, East Brent is 10.30am, correcting the older 10am listing. The sheet also sets out the other churches’ services. Read the updated service timetable →

East Brent Remembers — St Mary’s, 7–8 November

The official flyer confirms both afternoons noon–4pm, with local wartime history, songs and music, audio/visual displays, refreshments and children’s remembrance activities. View the recreated flyer and article →

East Brent Academy and preschool

The Academy publishes its school diary, preschool information and notices on its official website. Dated recruitment advertisements should be checked directly with the school before applying. School and parish community notices →

East Brent Parish Council, parish & village life

East Brent news comes before neighbouring villages and county-wide items. Brocks Pill’s £100,000 drainage allocation is an announced scheme, not evidence of completed repairs. Village clubs and societies are listed separately from specific dated events.

Parish business and community notices

East Brent Parish Council covers East Brent, Rooksbridge and Edingworth. Its regular meetings are the first Monday of the month (except August), normally 7pm at East Brent Village Hall. The next expected meeting is Monday 2 November; this follows the published schedule, but the agenda and any change of date should be checked with the council. Parish council agendas ↗

The Brent Knoll Inn continues to advertise bingo, crochet, a baby-and-toddler group, skittles and live music. The pub has not published reliably verifiable future dates for these activities, so do not assume a particular session is taking place. Check the pub’s announcements ↗

Brent Knoll village news & events

The neighbouring Brent Knoll Parish Council Village Diary includes several additions for October: a Spud & Pud lunch on Saturday 17 October (noon), a Steepholmers sea-shanty performance on Friday 23 October (7.30–9.30pm, £10 supporting RNLI) and a Harvest Supper with Lipinski Brothers on Saturday 24 October (7pm). These are Brent Knoll events rather than East Brent Village Hall sessions. The newsletter diary says 7pm for the sea-shanty evening but the dedicated flyer gives 7.30–9.30pm; please confirm the arrival time and booking with organisers. October newsletter PDF ↗

Also advertised are a Brent Knoll Companions meeting on Wednesday 21 October (2.30pm), Sausage Sizzler and tabletop sale on Saturday 31 October (10am–noon) at Brent Knoll Parish Hall, and a Brent Knoll Parish Council meeting on Wednesday 4 November (7pm, Jubilee Room). A current Brent Knoll News edition is online, including a PDF, and the full 52-page PDF has now been read and checked. Read the additional animal-welfare, road-safety and community-shop news →. Somerset parking tariffs: councillor raises local business concerns

Somerset Council’s Executive approved a 10% increase in existing parking charges from January 2027, with a wider tiered charging structure expected in autumn 2027. Brent Knoll councillor Bob Filmer has publicly criticised the potential effect on town-centre businesses. The decision is made; his comments describe opposition to it, not a reversal. This is relevant to residents visiting Burnham-on-Sea and Highbridge. Original reporting ↗

Secret World opens new wildlife diagnostic facilities

Secret World Wildlife Rescue in East Huntspill opened a dedicated diagnostic suite with on-site digital X-ray and ultrasound facilities on 1 October.
